PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is a government scheme that aims to provide free electricity to households in India. Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojna was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 15, 2024. Under the scheme, households will be provided with a subsidy to install solar panels on their roofs. The subsidy will cover up to 40% of the cost of the solar panels. The scheme is expected to benefit 1 crore households across India. It is estimated that the scheme will save the government Rs. 75,000 crore per year in electricity costs.

Under rooftop installation, solar photovoltaic (PV) panels are fixed atop a building, home, or residential property.

Eligibility Of Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojna

  1. The household must be an Indian citizen.

How to apply for the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojna

Step-1 : Visit the official website.

Step-2 : Provide the following details for registration.

– Select your State

– Select your Electricity Distribution Company

– Enter your Electricity Consumer Number

– Enter Mobile Number

– Enter Email

– Please follow as per the direction from the portal.

Step-3 : Login with Consumer Number & Mobile Number.

Step-4 : Apply for the Rooftop Solar as per the form.

Step-5 : Fill out the online application form.

Step-6 : Wait for the feasibility approval from DISCOM. Once you get the feasibility approval install the plant by any of the registered vendors in your DISCOM.

Step-7 : Once installation is over, submit the plant details and apply for net meter.

Step-8 : After installation of net meter and inspection by DISCOM, they will generate commissioning certificate from portal.

Step-9 : Once you get the commissioning report. Submit the bank account details and a cancelled cheque through the portal. You will receive your subsidy in your bank account within 30 days.

Vendor Registration Process For Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojna

1. The vendors willing to execute the projects through the National Portal can get registered with respective DISCOM by submitting an application along with a declaration in the format given at www.solarrooftop.gov.in and depositing a PBG of Rs. 2,50,000/- valid for at least five years.

2. Vendors can submit the application at the Division/Circle level and their name will be included in the list of empanelled vendors within one month from the date of submission of the application. The DISCOM will update the list every month.

3. The DISCOM will upload the details of the registered vendors on the National Portal and the vendors will receive a registration mail. The vendors can now log into the National Portal with PAN No. and mobile number (used by DISCOM for registration) and enter the product rates and contact details. The details entered by the vendor will be visible to the consumer submitting application to the concerned DISCOM for rooftop solar.

The RTS under any framework like net or gross metering can be installed by the electricity consumer. So, if the applicant has an electricity connection in his/her name and he/she pay regularly the electricity bill in his/her own name and also has permission to use the roof for solar rooftop installation from the owner, he/she can install the RTS.

If the applicant shifts his/her residence or office where the RTS is installed, what will happen to the RTS?

The system is easy to be dismantled and reassembled elsewhere. So, it can be shifted to a new residence.
